The 10.5″ Build and Review

For those that have followed me on twitter for any length of time, I’ve lusted after the Mk18 Shorty. So I finally got approval from corporate to build the cheapest version humanly possible. I know that my rifle (pistol) doesn’t come close to the Mk18. But it’s short, handy, it goes bang, and I’m damned happy with it.

I started with a 10.5″ PSA Barreled Upper and mated it with a PSA AR pistol lower that came with the SOB Brace. I have shot the “blade” brace, and the SOB and SBA are infinitely more comfortable to shoot.

For Optics, I had an old Bushnell TRS-25 laying around from my first AR. Hence the Khaki/FDE Color. For the record, TRS-25’s are realllllly cheap. Maybe 50 bucks. But I’ve had 0 problems with mine with roughly 1000 rounds under it. I know folks who SWEAR by them and have 10’s of thousands of rounds under them with no problems. For those on a budget, the TRS-25 can be a solid choice. With all this said. I will upgrade this gun with a Vortex SPARC.

That magnifier…is just…there. Its a UTG that I ordered off of amazon just to see what it was like. Glass clarity isn’t too too bad, but there is definite distortion. Save your money and get the Vortex 3x. I gave 50 bucks for the UTG.

The rest of the gun is pretty self explanatory. The Quad Rail was a gun show pick up that was gathering dust in a rubbermaid. It is NOT aluminum. It’s polymer. At 6 o’clock is the MAGPUL handstop designed for PIC rails. Lower receiver is bone stock with the Mil-Spec trigger, the only thing I changed was the handle to a MAGPUL FDE MOE+.

I put at SUREFIRE SOCOM muzzle device on it, for “future reasons.” Read into that what you will.

I wanted this gun for a very very long time. I’m happy with it. Is it a Daniel? Hell no. But for a grand total of 675.00 dollars. It ain’t too bad.

Last thing, alot of folks turn up their noses at PSA guns. This is my third, after a few thousand rounds I have had 0 problems with any of them.
